I’ve had a strange love affair with United Visual Artists for a few years now. And I say strange only because every time I’ve seen their work in person it’s been by accident. I’ll see an installation, be it dripping from the ceiling of Covent Garden or exhibited in the Design Museum, think a variant on “this is excellent/intelligent/beautiful/wow”, look it up and find - every single time - it’s UVA. It’s a bit like the car journey where Thames was on stereo duty and every song I loved and asked “who’s this by, it’s great” was Deerhunter. This happened about 9 times.
Perhaps most famously to the wider audience here, they did the video for Tonto by Battles (of which the above picture is a still). Have a look through their work and you might find you too have seen some of it by happy accident http://www.uva.co.uk/category/work
All this is a precursor to the news that I will be getting to look round their studio this coming week and proffering my services in the hope of getting some work experience there. Very exiting stuff, and all thanks to Greg Aeronaut, The Great Connector.
